Volunteers
Since 1991, volunteers have played a critical role in Veterans Inc.’s success and growth. As a non-profit organization with a small staff, we simply could not provide the level of services that we do without your assistance. The countless hours of time and talent, in addition to monetary and in-kind support, ensure that Veterans Inc. can continue its mission to improve the lives of veterans and their families and, ultimately, save lives.
Among the countless ways to support the Veterans Inc. mission and help veterans reclaim their lives are the following.
Hold an Event at Veterans Inc. – Training/meeting rooms, conference/banquet space, a chapel and 22 acres of landscaped grounds at Independence Hall in Shrewsbury, Mass. are available for rental by businesses and organizations. Click here for more information.
Veterans Inc. Fundraising Events – Assist with our annual Golf Tournament, Pancake Breakfast and Road Races, as well as the biennial Gala Military Ball. Volunteers help with event planning, management and promotion.
Run a Donation Drive – Collect items on our Wish List, which are needed for our residents. Food, clothing and toiletry drives in particular are very helpful. Other ideas are welcomed. PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to run a donation drive, please fill out the Donation Drive Form.
Events & Programs for Residents – Help Veterans Inc. by sponsoring events for the residents of our housing, including but not limited to seasonal/holiday parties, cookouts, monthly birthday parties, as well as the Annual Central Massachusetts Stand Down held in June.

Recreational Activities – Spend a few hours sponsoring a recreational activity for residents. Examples are movie nights, basketball or softball games, tennis, fishing, nature walks, and board game tournaments.
Hot Meals Program – Help prepare and serve hot meals at our Grove Street site. Time commitment is from 11:45 – 12:45 for lunch, and 4:45 – 5:15 for dinner. Individuals and groups are welcome to sponsor meals and prepare your favorite recipes. Dessert sponsorships are always welcomed!
Food Bank – The Food Bank at Grove Street is open on the second and fourth Thursday of every month, starting at 10:00 a.m. Volunteers are needed the day prior to the Food Bank to load food at the Worcester County Food Bank, transport it to Grove Street and organize it into boxes; and to help distribute boxes during the Food Bank.
Office Support – Help Veterans Inc. process seasonal donations, prepare bulk mailings, and manage other special projects.
Facility Improvements – We always need people to help with repairs and maintenance of our grounds and facilities.
Tutor/Teach – Have experience teaching a subject or activity? Tutoring individuals or teaching a class is an opportunity to change the outlook of another person. Conduct a class in health, wellness, nutrition, fitness and more. PLEASE NOTE: Background and experience in the subject matter are required.
